The Dingle Peninsula

Take the N72about 3 miles and go right at The Golden Nugget onto the R563 to Castlemaine and take the R561 for Dingle.

You will then head straight to Dingle town along the scenic southern coast of the peninsula taking in Inch beach and Sammys restaurant with great food on the beach. If you get on the road early (before 9) then you can go straight thru Dingle and wait to explore it on the return trip. Follow the signs for Slea (slay) Head and explore the wild rugged west featuring the beautiful Ventry Beach, Dunquin Pier (a must see) and the Blasket Islands. There is a great spot to pull over and walk to lands end 2/3s of the way around. Louis Mulcahy Pottery is a great stop on route with an excellent little café.

There are plenty of eateries in Dingle so grab a parking spot down at the Harbour and get strolling. Out of the Blue on the Marina has the best seafood in town Paul Geaneys Pub on Main street on the top of the town is a great spot to eat also as ‘’The Diner’’ on the corner in the centre of town.

Dingle is a great traditional town with lots of interesting shops, galleries and the like so stroll around and meet the locals. If you feel like a pint then Dick Macs on Green Street is a must see, just across from the church.

On leaving Dingle you will be taking the R560 heading for the Connor Pass. Take this up over the magnificent Slieve Mish Mountains and down the other side, taking in the splendid views of The Magherees, Tralee Bay and the West of Ireland Coast.
Once you reach back to roughly sea level you will travel approximately 10 miles before you see a sign for ‘‘Camp’’ Village. Look out for a yellow crossroads sign & take a right there; continue up the hill about 300 yards to another crossroads. On the right you will se Ashes Pub, go straight across the road and continue on that small narrow road to Cahercoree, The Camp Pass.

This is an excellent rugged winding scenic path with less than 1% of visitors to the Dingle Peninsula taking this route. Once you reach the summit you will be facing south looking across Dingle Bay and the tiny fishing village of Cromane, the sand bars of Inch and Rossbeigh with the daunting Iveragh Peninsula featuring the Ring of Kerry in the background. This will take you back to the Main Killarney Dingle Road (R561) take a left onto it and you are headin’ for home.

Drive safely and enjoy the ride!
